I loved it! There are 4 speech therapists in our district. Two of the therapists did not technically follow it. They provided services during the fourth week but just did not bill for it. This was in the severe autism classrooms where the students themselves would not do well with the change and in the kindergarten where it was just easier for her and the teachers to not have that change...but it was their choice how to implement the "monthly" frequencies. We changed frequencies from weekly to monthly in IEPs which gave great flexibility for make-ups. The district was actually able to recoup more money for Medicaid services because we could make up a session any time in the month and not just in the same week the session was missed. The truth is though...there were really only October, January, March and May that we had the "extra" week because of school holidays but I made great use of the fourth week in those months doing evaluations, observations, consultations and catch-up work. I think districts who have not tried this model yet should get it started! That way, if there are ever any questions, I can say exactly what I was doing. What I choose to do with that week is up to me and it varies each "off week."Word of Mouthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09091213921681367316noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1256253584465657617.post-12458279798908731722016-02-14T13:59:44.886-05:002016-02-14T13:59:44.886-05:00I tried to set this up at my district but was told...I tried to set this up at my district but was told the only way it'd be allowed is if I specifically documented in time/services in the IEP for that indirect week. Which meant I would need to crate and implement a schedule of actually seeing the kids in their classroom and follow it during the "off week". Do you do this? I was under the impression that most SLPs who do 3:1 use the indirect week at their discretion... Classroom visits, teacher meetings, plan/prep for high maintenance students, research, etc...? Getting teachers on board was tricky for me at first too, but now most of them appreciate it because I can be in the classrooms more often. The hardest part by far at my school is getting teachers on board, as well as my 'guilt' for not seeing students. Hopefully this will ease up as time goes on!
